Denise Anderson

Hi everyone, my name is Denise Anderson and I’m the writer and editor behind Food Prep & Storage. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a deep passion for all things food-related. Some of my fondest memories are of spending time in the kitchen with my Grandma Ellie as she taught me her time-honored techniques for turning fresh ingredients into nutrient-dense meals and treats.

I was always in absolute awe of Grandma’s pantry and basement food cellar, packed to the brim with meticulously organized canned goods, jars of homemade jam, and sacks of dried beans and grains. It was as if she had her own general store! She took such pride and care in learning to preserve each harvest bounty, whether through canning, dehydrating, or lacto-fermenting. These skills not only provided for her family over the winter months but built a sense of self-sufficiency I always admired.

As I got older and started my own journey in cooking, I came to better appreciate just how much knowledge was passed down through those patient lessons in her kitchen. Preparing foods in their whole, unprocessed state while also planning and executing large-scale preservation projects became a year-round passion of mine. Over a decade later, I’m still experimenting with new techniques and honing my craft.

Through Food Prep & Storage, I aim to pay homage to stalwarts like my Grandma Ellie by sharing what I’ve learned. I hope to inspire others to strengthen their understanding of where our food comes from by witnessing the whole food cycle firsthand. With a little know-how and practice, you really can become nearly self-sufficient and better nourish your community at the same time. It’s time to keep those old skills alive – now let’s get cracking!
